iOS

Browse tables and run queries on PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQLite from your iPhone or iPad.

Mantidb for iPhone and iPad lets you check on a database when you're away from your Mac. You can browse tables, run SQL and connect through an SSH tunnel, with the same safe mode that protects production on the Mac.

Requirements

  • iOS 17 or later.
  • Runs on iPhone and iPad. On iPad, the app uses the same single-column screens as on iPhone.

Supported databases

The iOS app works with:

  • PostgreSQL
  • MySQL / MariaDB
  • SQLite

SQL Server, Redis and MongoDB are listed in the Type picker, but connecting to them fails with an "Unsupported" message. Use the Mac app for those databases.

Connections

The Connections screen lists your saved connections. Each one shows a status dot, its tag and a summary such as user@host/db via sshhost.

  • Tap + (New Connection) to add a connection.
  • Tap a connection to connect.
  • Swipe a connection, or touch and hold it, to Edit or Delete it.

Connection form

FieldDescription
NameThe name shown in the list.
TypeThe database type.
TagLocal, Development, Testing, Staging or Production.
Safe modeDefault (…), Silent, Confirm writes, Confirm + Face ID for writes or Read only.
PathSQLite only: the database file.
Host, Port, User, Password, DatabaseServer connections.

SSH tunnel

In the SSH tunnel section, turn on Connect over SSH and fill in:

  • SSH host, SSH port (default 22) and SSH user.
  • SSH password, or tap Import private key… to pick a key from the Files app and enter its Key passphrase. Tap Use password instead to switch back to a password.

The first time you connect to an SSH server, the app shows Unknown SSH host with the server's key. Tap Trust to continue.

Passwords and keys

  • Passwords, passphrases and other secrets are stored in the device's Keychain. They aren't synced through iCloud Keychain.
  • Imported private keys are stored on the device with restricted file permissions and complete file protection.

Browse and Query

Once connected, the connection opens with two tabs, Browse and Query. Connections with a tag other than Local show a colored status stripe, like on the Mac. Tap Disconnect when you're done.

Browse

  • Pick a schema with the Schema picker.
  • Pull down on the object list to refresh it.
  • Tap a table to see its rows, 500 per page. Use ‹ and › to change page.

The table grid is read-only.

Query

  • Type SQL in the editor. Smart quotes, smart dashes and autocorrect are turned off, so your SQL is sent exactly as you type it.
  • Tap Run to run it, or Stop to cancel.
  • Each statement gets its own result; switch between them with the numbered buttons.
  • The summary shows "N rows · X ms". Results stop at 500 rows and are marked "(limit reached)".

Safe mode

Safe mode works like on the Mac:

  • In Confirm writes and Confirm + Face ID for writes, a sheet asks "Run N statement(s) on <name>?" before any write. Tap Run, or Run with Face ID.
  • Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode is used to authenticate, depending on your device.
  • If the device has no passcode set, these writes are refused.
  • Read only blocks every write.

The Default safe mode uses Confirm + Face ID for writes for Production connections and Silent for every other tag.

The defaults you set in Settings on the Mac don't apply to the iOS app.

Differences from the Mac app

The iOS app focuses on browsing and querying. These features are available only in the Mac app:

  • Editing cells and rows in the table grid.
  • TLS options.
  • Adding or editing jump hosts. Jump hosts already on a connection are still used.
  • Connecting with an SSH agent.
  • Query history and favorites.
  • A split-view layout on iPad.
  • SQL Server, Redis and MongoDB connections.
