Settings

Change fonts, row limits, safe mode defaults, shortcuts and the other app-wide preferences.

Open Settings with Mantidb ▸ Settings… (⌘,). The Settings window has six tabs: Editor & Grid, Safe Mode, Shortcuts, Assistant, MCP and Plugins.

Every change applies immediately. You don't need to restart Mantidb or reconnect.

Editor & Grid

Data fontJetBrains MonoJetBrains Mono, SF Mono, Menlo
Grid font size12 pt9–24 pt
Editor font size13 pt9–24 pt
Editor row limit1,0001–1,000,000
Grid page size30010–10,000

Fonts

  • Data font is the monospaced font used to show your data.
  • Grid font size also sets the row height of the grid (the font size plus 24 points).
  • Editor font size sets the text size of query tabs.

Rows

  • Editor row limit is the maximum number of rows a query tab fetches for each statement. Results that reach it are marked "(limit reached)". The new limit applies the next time you run a query. To get every row, export the result.
  • Grid page size is the number of rows shown per page when you browse a table. The new size applies when you change page or reload.

Safe Mode

This tab sets the default safe mode by tag. There is one picker for each tag — Local, Development, Testing, Staging and Production — with these options:

  • Silent
  • Confirm writes
  • Confirm + Touch ID for writes
  • Read only

By default, Production uses Confirm + Touch ID for writes and every other tag uses Silent. Click Restore Defaults to go back to these values.

These defaults apply to connections whose safe mode is set to Default for tag. A safe mode chosen on the connection itself always wins. New windows pick up a change right away; windows that are already open keep their current mode.

See Safe Mode for what each mode does.

Shortcuts

You can change the keyboard shortcut of almost every menu command.

  1. Click the shortcut next to a command.
  2. Press the new key combination.
  3. Press ⌫ to remove the shortcut, or ⎋ to cancel.

Each row has its own restore button, and Restore All brings back every default.

Rules for new shortcuts:

  • A shortcut must include ⌘ or ⌃.
  • A shortcut that's already in use is rejected, with a message such as "⌘X is already used by “…”".
  • Standard macOS commands can't be changed. These include Copy, Undo, Quit, Close, Minimize, Hide, About, Settings and the Appearance items.

Custom shortcuts also show up in the hints of the query toolbar. The full list of defaults is in Shortcut Keys.

Assistant

Add and configure the AI providers used by the Assistant: protocol, model, base URL and API key. See AI Assistant.

MCP

Turn on the local MCP server, choose its port, create tokens and review the audit log. See MCP Server.

Plugins

Install, enable, review and remove plugins. See Plugins.

Appearance

The theme is set from the menu bar rather than the Settings window. Choose View ▸ Appearance and pick one of:

  • Use System Setting (default) — follows the macOS appearance.
  • Light
  • Dark

Mantidb uses the Geist font for the interface and JetBrains Mono for data, both bundled with the app. You can change the data font in Editor & Grid.

The interface font size can't be changed, and Light and Dark are the only themes.
