Metrics Board

Build boards of charts, numbers and tables from your own SQL queries, refreshed manually or on a timer.

The Metrics Board turns read-only queries into a live dashboard for a connection. Each widget runs one query and shows its result as a chart, a single number or a small table.

Open the Metrics Board

Choose View ▸ Metrics Board (⌥⌘B). It opens in its own window and remembers its size and position per connection.

Boards

Each connection has its own boards. The first one is called Overview. Use the ⋯ menu to manage them:

  • New Board…
  • Rename Board…
  • Delete Board…

Widgets

Click Add Widget to create one. There are five kinds:

KindShows
LineA line chart.
BarA bar chart.
AreaAn area chart.
NumberA single value.
TableThe rows of the result (up to 200).

Widget editor

FieldDescription
TitleThe widget's title.
KindLine, Bar, Area, Number or Table.
QueryOne read-only SQL statement.
Label columnThe column used for labels. Defaults to the first text column.
Value columnsComma-separated list of columns to plot. Defaults to every numeric column.

Click Preview (⌘R) to run the query and see the widget, then Save.

For example, a line chart of daily orders could use:

SELECT date_trunc('day', created_at)::date AS day, count(*) AS orders
FROM orders
GROUP BY 1
ORDER BY 1;

Here day is the label column and orders is the value column.

Widget menu

Each widget has a menu with:

  • Refresh
  • Edit…
  • Duplicate
  • Move Earlier / Move Later
  • Delete

Widgets have a fixed size and can't be dragged or resized. Use Move Earlier and Move Later to reorder them.

Refresh

Each board has its own refresh setting:

  • Manual refresh (default)
  • Every 5 s, 10 s, 30 s, 1 min or 5 min

Click Refresh all widgets (⌘R) to refresh the whole board at any time.

Limits

  • Each widget runs a single, read-only statement. Writes are rejected whatever the connection's safe mode.
  • A widget reads at most 1,000 rows. Table widgets show the first 200.
  • Widgets run on their own database session, so a slow widget doesn't block your workspace.

Boards don't support shared parameters such as a date range, and they can't be exported.

Storage

Boards are saved per connection in ~/Library/Application Support/Mantidb/Metrics/<connection-id>.json.
